Summer Events This Month For Parma Residents

This month, the City of Parma offers three events that have become summer family favorites.

This year’s Independence Day parade looks to be one of the biggest and best in recent memory – be sure to be along the parade route at 10 a.m. on July 4. The parade route runs down Ridge Road from Snow Road to W. Ridgewood Drive (where it will turn into The Shoppes at Parma parking lot.)

If you are planning to attend the parade, remember that you can bring your donations of canned food and non-perishable items with you for volunteers to pick up during the parade. The City of Parma’s Christmas in July food drive benefits the Parma Hunger Center and helps to re-stock the center’s shelves during a time when shelves can get bare. Donation boxes are out around town, but if you’d rather just bring your items to the parade, we’ll be happy to pick them up from you and deliver them to the hunger center. Thank you!

The Mayor’s Movie Night Out is also this month, on July 16 on the soccer fields at James Day Park. The fun begins at 7 p.m. with Cornhole, carnival games and concessions, and the movie – Zootopia this year – will begin at 9 p.m.  Families from Parma and surrounding communities have enjoyed this free offering for the past few years, and we are delighted to be able to bring it back again this year.

Bring your blanket and have a great time. The rain date is the following Saturday, July 23.

Another event that has consistently grown in popularity is Parma Night at Progressive Field. This year’s event will take place at Progressive Field in downtown Cleveland on Tuesday, July 26. The Cleveland Indians will be taking on the Washington Nationals, and the game will begin at7:10 p.m.

In addition to the baseball game, Parma Night attendees will experience a few other special privileges. There will be a pre-game parade on the Indians’ field, open to all Parma kids and coaches involved in Parma Rec sports teams who are at the game.

Perhaps the most exciting opportunity for those considering attending Parma Night is the Mayor’s First Pitch raffle. Following his own tradition, Parma Mayor Tim DeGeeter is giving up his opportunity to throw out the first pitch and choosing instead to create a raffle for all Parma kids who purchase tickets. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is open to children who are Parma residents, aged 17 or younger, who purchase tickets in advance. The Mayor has given up this privilege for the last three Parma Nights, creating a chance for Parma’s youth that very few people ever get to experience.

We hope to see you out at some of these summer fun events this month.
