Parma Hosts State Of The County Address

When newly installed Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish was faced with delivering his first State of the County address, he decided to do it in the County’s second-largest city and came south to Parma. The event was held at the Cuyahoga County Public Library in the Parma-Snow Branch’s auditorium.

The event was well-attended … by Cuyahoga County officials, local Parma officials, and area residents. Parma Mayor Tim DeGeeter opened and closed the event, which was sponsored by the Cleveland City Club, by introducing County Executive Budish and officially pronouncing the event closed after the Q&A portion.

“It was really terrific to have the event here,” DeGeeter said. “County Executive Budish knows that Parma is active in regional collaboration, and we were thrilled that Parma residents could easily attend this event and hear more about plans he has in store for the county. Plus, we got to show off one of our great libraries.”

Mayor DeGeeter had as his guest Lidia Trempe, owner of one of Parma’s iconic businesses, Rudy’s Strudel & Bakery. “This was such a thrill for me,” Trempe said after the event. Trempe, who has a degree in Political Science from Cleveland State, said she was excited to meet County Executive Budish and Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson as well. “I am so grateful to Mayor DeGeeter for this experience, and also for being able to watch the incredible path that (Parma) is taking.”

In the speech, Budish said he is looking forward to working with Parma officials. “The goodwill, hard work and collaboration of all of our city partners is another reason I’m optimistic about our future,” he said. “I look forward to working closely with Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, Mayor Tim DeGeeter of our host Parma, Independence Mayor Gregory Kurtz, President of the Northeast Ohio Mayors and Managers Association and all of our local elected officials.”
