Health Insurance Enrollment Ends February 15, 2015

By this time, you should be aware that starting November 15, 2014, you can apply for health coverage through the Federal Health Insurance Marketplace. If you’re already covered, take advantage of this open enrollment period and re-visit www.healthcare.gov. It might be that with changes in the menu of plans a better deal may be available. In either case, this open enrollment period will end on Sunday, February 15, 2015.

Most people must sign up for health insurance or they will have to pay a fine. The 2015 penalty is $325 per person or 2% of your household income, whichever is higher. And remember, that someone who pays the penalty won’t get any health insurance coverage. So if you get sick or hurt, you will still be responsible for 100% of the cost of your medical care. With so many new health insurance options available, you may be better off getting a low-cost plan, or even a catastrophic plan, rather than take your chance. Remember: more than 4 in 5 people who already signed up received financial help.

If you have questions or need help, visit www.getcoveredamerica.org and click on the “Find Local Help” tab. In the Parma area, visit Parma Health Ministry’s web site at  www.parmahealthministry.org or phone: (440) 843-8087. Their Health Care Navigator should be able to help, or you can call you personal insurance agent or broker for assistance.
