Parma Police Department Joined By Newest K-9 Officer, Coney

Patrolman Nick Schuld, K-9 Officer Coney, and Parma Mayor Tim DeGeeter at Coney's swearing in ceremony.

Parma’s newest K-9 Officer, Coney, was sworn into the Parma police force by Parma Mayor Tim DeGeeter on June 7th at Veterans Memorial Park. Coney was accompanied by his handler, Patrolman Nick Schuld. Citizens of Parma joined at the park to watch as Coney, Parma’s third K-9 officer, was sworn in. The ceremony concluded with taking Coney’s paw print and stamping it on the official paperwork. Coney joins K-9 Officers Felix and Tyson on the force. Shortly after this, Mayor DeGeeter was joined by Officer Schuld, Coney, Police Chief Robert Miller, as well as other residents and their dogs, on a walk around the park which kicked off the Adopt-A-Thon at the Parma Animal Shelter. Just two short weeks after Coney’s swearing in, he was involved in his first arrest. Saturday morning, June 21, Coney had his first taste of success, defending his city. A bank robbery suspect–fled from the scene, being pursued by the Parma Police Department. The suspect fled to the woods by foot shortly before being thwarted by K-9 Officers Coney and Felix.

Mayor Tim DeGeeter expressed his pride in the Parma Police Department and the K-9 Officers, “We are very proud of our police force, and now we have three fine K-9 officers for the first time in our history,” he said. “Coney has already proven to be a great asset and addition to that team. Just two weeks after he was sworn in, he was in on his first felony arrest.”  The arrest of the bank robbery suspect came one day after Parma Police apprehended three suspects in an armed robbery at a Parma bar the week before.
