Learning Opportunities To Engage Students All Summer Long

As the year winds down for our students, I want to share with you some of the many learning opportunities available this summer. Research shows that students lose about a month's worth of learning in the summer, especially in the areas of reading and math. By keeping your child engaged in learning exercises all summer long, you can help to keep your child's skills fresh and mind progressing in its development. Check out some of these great programs:

STEM and Arts Summer Academy

The 2014 Summer Academy offers core summer instruction in reading and math along with a variety of enrichment opportunities for students entering Kindergarten through Grade 8. Housed at Shiloh Middle School, there are plenty of creative programs to pique your child's interest. There are two three-week sessions and half- and full-day options. Click here to learn more... 

Summer Dayz for Students Ages 5-12
This FREE program is a collaboration of the city of Parma Parks and Recreation Department, Parma City School District and Youth Opportunities Unlimited. Supervised activities and games are offered at two locations 
Monday-Friday, June 24 through August 2. There is no program on July 4. 
Summer Dayz Supervisors are employees of the Parma City School District. The youth live in the area and are hired through Y.O.U. Click here to learn more...

Ready. Set. Read! Summer Reading Program
This free choice summer reading program is offered in partnership with the Cuyahoga County Public Library June 7th-August 16th. Students register on-line in their classrooms prior to the start of the program. Adaptive Sports and Sensory Opportunities
Our district is very fortunate to also be supported by communities which provide an array of quality programs for students with disabilities, including  Adaptive Baseball,  Adaptive Bowling, and  Sensory Programming.

Free Summer Food Programs 

Please help to spread the word that free meals will be provided at two locations this summer for children ages 2-18. Breakfast and lunch will be offered at the PCSD Hanna Building, and lunch will be provided at John Muir Elementary. Click here for dates and times.    You can easily share the above information by directing individuals to visit the "2014 Summer Programming" area of the district website atwww.parmacityschools.org.
