NOPEC Opt-Out Cards Coming

Staring January 15, 2014, property owners in Parma Heights and other communities who are members of NOPEC (Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council) will be receiving a mandatory “Opt-Out” mailer for natural gas. NOPEC, the largest governmental public retail energy aggregation in the nation, is required to send the “opt-out” letter to consumers every two years.

Unless residents “opt-out” by February 4, 2014, they will automatically be provided gas through the NOPEC supplier. To accept the NOPEC negotiated price of $0.54404 per Ccf* residents need take no action at all. Within weeks, a letter will be sent from the utility confirming enrollment in NOPEC’s governmental aggregation program. Gas service at this price point is expected to begin with the March 2014 meter reading date and will continue through March 2016.

If residents do not wish to participate, they must notify NOPEC by either a) returning the “opt-out” card they receive in the mail, b) emailing NOPEC at nopecoptout@nexteraenergyservices.com (and include name, address, phone number and utility account number) or c) faxing information to 1.800.238.5676.

This program brings a change in the gas supplier, NextEra Energy of Ohio, but only the supplier will change. All other functions: delivery, repair, billing and customer service will continue to be provided by Columbia Gas of Ohio. Residents will continue to receive only one bill.

If anyone has additional questions, please feel free to contact NOPEC’s Customer Service at 1.855.667.3201 which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

*All prices are exclusive of sales and other applicable taxes and utility charges.
