What's Right? What's Wrong?
Happy New Year 2012! The subject of this month's column is: Contrasting Values. This is a collection of insights written by myself as well as by others.
* All virtue is loving right, all sin is loving wrong. A man is rich according to what he is, not according to what he has.
* A man who both spends and saves money is the happiest man, because he has both enjoyments. An attitude of gratitude focuses on the positive rather than the negative. A person of words and not deeds is like a garden full of weeds.
* A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty. As a rule, none of us can see ourselves as others see us, and others cannot see us as we see ourselves. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.
* Dodge responsibilities, and get hit by consequences. Does your employer consider you profit or overhead?
* Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed to the renewing of your mind.
* Either the bible will keep you away from sin, or sin will keep you away from the Bible.
* Everyone loves himself most, but wants others to love him more than they love themselves.
* For most people trying to find the road to success, breaking the rules is a shortcut to failure.
* He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.
* If you aren't sure something is right, ask yourself what most people would do, then do the opposite.
* It is better to fail in a cause that will ultimately succeed than to succeed in a cause that will ultimately fail.
* Learning from the past has taken a backseat to learning from the present.
* Many believe that there are no absolutes because everything is relative. Many people are indifferent to right or wrong because of value relativism.
* No man was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.
* Remember change and change for the better are two different things. Stand for something or you'll fall for anything.
* The gap between liberals and conservatives has become so wide that neither can be trusted.
* The louder parents talk to their children, the less that they listen. The opposite tends to be true as well.
* Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out. There's my truth, your truth, and the truth. Two people can look at the same thing and see it differently.
* We can control only one thing in our lives, and that's our attitude. We reap what we sow: it's so obvious that people don't believe it. You can give without loving, but you can't love without giving.
