Have You Heard Of C/B/S ?
If you would have asked me a year ago, have you ever heard of C/B/S? I would have said, yes, isn't that the television network? Not that CBS, the one in Parma, Parma Heights and Seven Hills. I was told C/B/S stands for Community/Business/Schools Partnership. I was invited by a good friend to attend one of their members meeting in November, 2010. He said, "Bill, you will meet a lot of great people there."
Well, he was right. Here are some facts I learned about the C/B/S Partnership organization.
Their mission statement:
C/B/S helps enhance mutually beneficial personal relationships among communities, businesses, and schools.
This partnership was created in the early 1990’s at the time when the leaders of the Parma City School District and the Parma Area Chamber of Commerce were discussing student needs and the available community resources. C/B/S is a cooperative educational partnership involving the cities of Parma, Parma Heights and Seven Hills and the Parma City School District. The C/B/S partners, individuals and groups work directly with school personnel to tailor an activity best suited for both the partner and the students. Over the years this has been done in a variety of ways by an ever-evolving group of members and volunteers. C/B/S has earned recognition at the local, state, and national levels.
A mission was developed to focus on the development of programs to support the goals of the District. The mission includes matching our community resources with the needs of the district, the students, the teachers and administrators and providing mutual benefit to our community and businesses. This partnership develops programs with the area businesses and community groups to enhance student achievement and provide opportunities that will ensure future success for students.
C/B/S is working continually to increase the benefits to our community and business partners as well as to our schools and students. This is giving the students a broader perspective in order to meet the demands and realities of the 21st century.
The C/B/S Partnership is a catalyst for ensuring that the students have the opportunity to experience relevant and timely assistance from the community partners who share a vision for a connected and self-supporting community.
Needless to say, I was interested in helping out and so I joined the C/B/S. I even signed up for one of their four committees: the marketing committee. Why not utilize my marketing talents to share and promote the C/B/S and to share my real world business and marketing experiences with the students? I enjoy the feeling that I am making a difference in the future of our schools and students. Parma City School District and C/B/S also appreciates our efforts and works hard to give back to our community and our businesses.
