AARP Honors Parma Heights Food Pantry Founder And Director Ann George

Parma Heights Food Pantry founder and Director Ann George was awarded the prestigious AARP Ohio 2011 Andrus Award for Community Service at a special AARP reception held in her honor at Parma Heights Town Hall on Tuesday, October 18, 2011.

In 2006, Mrs. George recognized a need in the community and established the non-profit organization, which has since grown to serve hundreds of area families. Originally intended as a food bank, over the years Mrs. George has expanded the services offered to include resume writing, classes on interviewing skills, and distribution of clothing, school supplies and children’s books.

Each year, AARP bestows its highest honor on one person in each state. According to Kathy Keller, AARP Associate State Director Communications, Mrs. George was “unanimously selected by an AARP Ohio all-volunteer committee to receive this year’s award because her work embodies the volunteer service that is the legacy of AARP founder Ether Percy Andrus.”

In addition to her volunteer work at the Parma Heights Food Pantry, located at 6582 Pearl Road, Mrs. George also serves as the Chair of the Mission Committee of Pleasant Hills United Methodist Church.
