Tri-C Hosts Relay For Life Closing Ceremony
Due to stormy weather the night of Parma’s Relay for Life on July 23, the closing ceremony for the Parma event was rescheduled for August 16 at Tri-C’s Western Campus Theatre.
During the evening ceremony, awards were given for the largest fundraisers and the best decorated tents and banners. In addition, the Luminary ceremony honored people touched by cancer and remembered loved ones lost to the disease. Battery operated candles were lit inside cups, some bearing the name of a person touched by cancer, and the names were read aloud. The reading was followed by a moment of silence.
Tri-C’s Western Campus hosted Relay for Life for the seventh consecutive year this summer. Seven Tri-C teams made up of 93 students, employees and friends raised over $16,000 for the American Cancer Society. Overall, the event raised over $73,000 for 2010.
“Parma’s Relay for Life is a significant event, and I am proud of the efforts of the communities of Parma, Parma Heights and Seven Hills in supporting our fight against cancer,” says Dr. Patricia Rowell, Western Campus President.
