Did you hear about all the fun and excitement going on at John Petruska Park and Walters Grove Park? MyCom Summer Dayz allowed children ages 3-12 to participate in creative crafts and games every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm.

The program started on July 6th, there were roughly 10-20 kids attending each park. The program expanded throughout the summer to 20 plus kids attending each park through word of mouth and excellent referrals. Due to how well the program went, a party will be held on the final day of August 12th. All of the kids will be able to enjoy free popsicles and some parents have even volunteered to bring food and drinks for everyone.

The program attendants of MyCom Summer Dayz were local high school and college youth and went above and beyond all expectation in their leadership and mentoring roles. While MyCom Summer Dayz was geared for giving kids a safe and fun environment to experience the summer, it also offered the older youth attendants an opportunity to hold a summer job and give back to their community.

Both locations had three youth attendants that would manage the crafts and games. The interaction between youth attendants and younger children allowed for a great learning experience, resulting in kids wanting to stay past the 1:00 pm closing time.

MyCom Summer Dayz was funded by the Cleveland Foundation and Family and Children First Council of Cuyahoga County to Parma City School District. We also thank Mickey Vittardi, Director of Parks and Recreation of Parma, for supplying baseballs, softballs, basketballs, bases, and sports bags to the MyCom Summer Dayz.
